Amazing Scanning Electron Microscope Pictures
All these pictures are from the book ' Microcosmos', created by Brandon Brill from London. This book includes many scanning electron microscope (SEM) images of insects, human body parts and household items.
These are the most amazing images of what is too small to see with the naked eye.

02 - The surface of an Erasable Programmable Read-Only Memory silicon microchip

03 - Eyelash hairs growing from the surface of human skin

04 - The surface of a strawberry

05 - Bacteria on the surface of a human tongue

06 - Human sperm (spermatozoa), the male sex cells

07 - The nylon hooks and loops of velcro

08 - Household dust which includes long hairs such as cat fur, twisted synthetic and woolen fibers, serrated insect scales, a pollen grain, plant and insect remains

09 -The weave of a nylon stocking

10 - The end of the tongue (proboscis) of a hummingbird hawkmoth

11 - The head of a mosquito

12 - A human head louse clinging to a hair

Concept Series: Seabird – A Community-driven Mobile Phone Concept - Mozilla Labs

9:55 AM Unknown 0 Comments

Since Mozilla Labs launched the Concept Series with an open call for participation we’ve had thousands of people join in, share ideas and develop concepts around Firefox, the Mozilla projects and the Open Web as a whole.
In response to our open call Billy May, in early 2009, produced a throw-away concept for an “Open Web Concept Phone”. Working directly off of that community feedback, Billy has since finished the exploration with his concept “Seabird”.

Overview

The Mozilla Seabird, part of the Mozilla Labs’ Concept Series, is an experiment in how users might interact with their mobile content as devices and technology advances. Drawing on insights culled from the Mozilla community through the project’s blog, a focus quickly developed around frustrating physical interactions. While mobile CPUs, connectivity and development platforms begin approaching that of desktops, the lagging ability to efficiently input information has grown ever more pronounced.

Interaction

The Seabird, then, introduces a few possibilities into how user interaction might evolve with the advancing motion capture and projector driven innovation in the market. First out, the Seabird imagines how a multiple use dongle might augment the crowded gestural interface with greater precision and direct manipulation of content in 3D space.

Pico Projector

With mobile phone companies such as Samsung, LG and Motorola moving towards display applications for projectors, the technology remains open for expanding user interaction and input at the same time. The Seabird, on just a flat surface, enables netbook-quality interaction by working with the projector’s angular distortion to deliver interface, rather than content. With the benefit of a dock, each projector works independently and delivers laptop levels of efficiency.

Design

The form development took its cues from various aerodynamic, avian and decidedly feminine forms. Its erect posture intends a sense of poise while its supine conformity to the hand reconciles that with the user’s desire for digital control. The curvature of the back also serves a functional role in elevating the projector lens elements when lying flat.

Seabird is a community-driven exploration and does not mean that Mozilla has plans to produce an OS or hardware at the moment. Find out more about Mozilla Firefox for Mobile here.

FAQ

Who created this project?

Seabird was created by Billy May, a Mozilla Labs community member who in early 2009 created an initial vision of what an Open Web mobile phone could look like. Seabird is Billy’s followup project in which he incorporated the feedback he received from the wider community on his first throw-away concept. To learn more about Billy May, please visit his homepage.

How does this relate to Mozilla / Mozilla Labs?

Billy is a community member in the Mozilla Labs community and created Seabird in his spare time. Seabird is not a Mozilla or Mozilla Labs project but part of the Mozilla Labs Concept Series. The Concept Series provides a place for the wider community to create and collaborate on projects which push the boundaries of the Web and the browser.

Does Mozilla have plans to produce a mobile phone?

No. Mozilla produces Firefox for Mobile, the popular Firefox browser for mobile phone systems such as Nokia Maemo and Android. You can find out more about Mozilla Firefox for Mobile here.

The NEW iPhone 4G - Coming JULY 2010

2:48 PM Unknown 0 Comments

The iPhone 4G is COMING!!!

April 29, 2010 - Are you ready? Release likely around June or July of 2010.
Lots of speculation is going around on the new iPhone 4g... in HD!!  Official features will be revealed at the WWDC conference this June.

Verizon Wireless is currently testing a CDMA version of the iPhone 4G and Verizon confirms they are making network changes to bring the iphone to their network. The new iPhone 4g is going to be loaded with awesome new features like video chat, multi-tasking and extreme downloading. (List of possible features below). Just when you think there is nothing else to come up with, more and more and more technology comes out. And it is on the rise, and not just at Apple, Inc!
Woo hoo! This iPhone 4g could also have dual core processors and higher and powerful graphic chips that can deliver higher video resolutions and better "still" images when taking pictures.
There are a few networks working on building a 4G network. T-mobile would be a likely carrier since they are GSM already. Sprint has a 4G network already... AT&T and Verizon Wireless are in the beginning stages. There are talks of Verizon Wireless getting iPhone sometime in 2010 since the exclusive contract with AT&T expires, but it could be renewed until 2012.

Whether or not it will be 4G will be up to them!... can they build in time? Regardless, there is much anticipation on how many people will leave AT&T for Verizon Wireless because of AT&T's lagging on app restrictions like Slingplayer and Google Voice and Skype (on #g network, not Wi-Fi).
AT&T's restrictions have caused the percentage of people that are JailBreaking their iPhones to rise since Jail Breaking usually comes with Cydia which is the app store for jail broken phones. Most of the applications, ringtones, and even iphone themes!...are free with Cydia. Winterboard is part of the download, and it very easily add's the changes to your phone so you dont have to figure how to do it on your own...it is VERY automated.

The Palm Pre on Sprint (Sprint now offering a 4G network) has made an attempt at being competitive with iPhone and Blackberry...but it's not looking good. Maybe their recent Android phone will help.
iPhone 4G looks promising in terms of being sleek, packed with new hardware and multi-tasking software. Very exciting.

A few features of iPhone 4G:
Unified Mailbox (all email accounts in one area).
Application folders.
New wallpaper/background options.
A new, sleeker body design.
OLED screen.
Multi-Tasking. (use multiple functions at once without going in and out of apps).
iChat camera (on the front so you can have video chat!!!).
32G (basic) and 64G of memory. You're sure to never run out.
Removable Battery.
Hi Definition Camera.
Hi Definition Camcorder.
Hi Definition audio.
Messaging light.
True GPS built in.

iPhone 4G caught in the wild, is thicker than 3G and edgier

8:27 PM Unknown 0 Comments

Apparently if you don’t watch your feet when walking around the bars in San Jose you might stumble into an iPhone 4G (or is that iPhone HD?) laying on the ground. Or at least that’s what the guy who posted the live photos of the device wants us to believe.
The story goes on to tell that the prototype device was found inside an iPhone 3G box. According to the source it’s so early in its development that it even fails to boot so details about it are scarce.

The quoted specs include a front-facing camera and 80 GB worth of storage space. Now how exactly did he find that out if the device doesn’t power on is a mystery but let’s just pretend we didn’t notice and play along here.
The announcement of the 4th generation of the Apple mobile phone is coming in a couple of months time so then we will find out if this was a real prototype or a fan-made mock-up.
Update: Actually, the truth about this iPhone 4G wannabe surfaced much much earlier than that. The device turned out to be a Japanese knock-off that some fraudsters were trying to sell to publications for 10 000 US dollars. We told you there was something wrong here.

MeeGo 1.0 caught on video, up and running on various devices

MeeGo 1.0 caught on video, up and running on various devices

Intel demonstrated MeeGo 1.0 OS in Beijing on four kinds of devices - a netbook, a smartphone, one big TV and a digital coupon machine. The upcoming mobile OS looks and runs smoothly, offering rich functionality and simple UI.

The second demonstration is very interesting. If you preview some online content, moving it from one device to the other can be quite seamless. All your MeeGo devices sync with the cloud. As the video shows you can watch a movie on your netbook, TV and smartphone very easy and the process is automatic and simple.
Finally a portable MeeGo device may be used to communicate with machines running the same OS like the coupon one. They can exchange information, coupons, etc.

There is a still a lot of work on the MeeGo UI, but the guys behind the OS have some great ideas. The first MeeGo-based Nokia/Intel smartphone is expected to be announced and released later this year. Until then we'll keep looking for more interesting info on the OS development.

The slides also reveal that the device will arrive in an array of colorful finishes, including black, blue, pink, red and several custom Dell Design Studio finishes. Ubuntu Gets New Themes, Logo, Boot Screen, Indentity and So Much More!

5:56 PM Unknown 0 Comments

Ubuntu

Over a week ago we revealed that a big announcement regrading the re-branding of Ubuntu was imminent. That announcement has now been made - but even we didn't expect it to be quite as big as this!

Beginnings
All of the new artwork and design directions are the result of Ubuntu founder Mark Shuttleworth and a small team reassessing the brand values and identity that Ubuntu embodies.

The team touched up on "light" as a reference point:
"We're drawn to Light because it denotes both warmth and clarity, and intrigued by the idea that "light" is a good value in software. Good software is "light" in the sense that it uses your resources efficiently, runs quickly, and can easily be reshaped as needed."
Ensuing collaboration, consultation and shared vision between that small team and the Ubuntu artwork community - over all major non-KDE spins - are responsible for the following utterly awesome artwork you will see below.

New logo

Ubuntu gains a new logo with a new typeface and visual style.

In keeping with trying to create a cohesive brand identity the ancillary services Ubuntu provides have also been redesigned under the same styling: -

Two new themes
The visual identity of Ubuntu goes deeper than simple changing the font and logo. To this extent two new themes have been created to provide Ubuntu users with a modern and elegant desktop in keeping with the "light" direction.

"Light"

"Dark"

I'm not entirely convinced that the 'left' alignment of window buttons is a change most users will take to - but i have every faith that a checkbox check will put them back on the right side (no pun).

The lack of bottom panel isn't actually that notable as it's obvious these screenshots are simply cropped above it.

Boot
A slick new boot screen also ties in the new Ubuntu experience from power-on to desktop. Powered by Plymouth this is one part of the new visual styling most users won't get to see much of thanks to the super fast boot Lucid already has!

Website
The entire "branding" of Ubuntu has been realigned and refocused - from the default icon set right down to the official website.

Further
You can read much more on the semantics behind the visual change - as well as even more gallery goodness on the Ubuntu Brand wiki page @ wiki.ubuntu.com/Brand#Light:%20Ubuntu%20is%20Lightware

The new Ubuntu style: Like it or not?
